project description
A Residence | Indo-Contemporary Solid wood, warm ivory, handcrafted objects, and the quiet confidence of Indian craft — this home is rooted in a design language that feels both familiar and entirely considered. The living room is built around a teak wood sofa set with clean slatted frames and boucle cushioning — furniture that references traditional Indian joinery while sitting comfortably in a contemporary room. A grid of hand-painted decorative plates climbs the sofa wall in place of conventional art, and an antique-style lantern sconce adds amber warmth at the corner. A timber-framed glass partition screen divides the space with grace, while a Pattachitra-painted cabinet beside it grounds the room in unmistakable cultural identity. The coffered timber ceiling with gold inlay trim ties it all together — architectural detail that feels earned, not applied. The kitchen steps into a different register entirely — sage-grey cabinetry with black granite countertops, a marble-effect backsplash, and clean handle-less lower drawers. Efficient, minimal, and quietly elegant. The master bedroom is the home's most romantic space. A four-poster bed in dark timber with brass canopy rods commands the room beneath a barrel-vaulted ribbed ceiling that gives the space an almost colonial grace. Traditional Madhubani and Pattachitra artworks hang on the side wall, a conscious thread connecting the bedroom to the living room's craft sensibility. The wardrobe wall — cream panels framed in warm timber with a horizontal slatted inlay band and brass pulls — is a piece of joinery that deserves to be noticed. A home that wears its Indian identity with ease, neither nostalgic nor self-conscious — simply well-designed.
